Reunion Revival:

Alumni Return for Unforgettable Weekend

By Maria Taylor, Director of Alumni Relations

Five years ago, classes ending in 1 and 6 were set to celebrate milestone reunions — but the pandemic put those plans on hold. This year, the wait was finally over, and these alumni returned to Flint Hill in record-breaking numbers, eager to reconnect and celebrate in person.

Traditionally, Reunion weekend concluded with a Falcon Reception — an evening cocktail gathering in the historic Miller House. Last year, we introduced a new tradition, kicking off Reunion with a Falcon BBQ in The Dell, the outdoor space nestled between Miller House and the Hazel Academic Building. This lively event also welcomes early Husky Reunion classes whose Flint Hill years were spent entirely on this campus — this year, that included the classes of 1991, 1996, and 2001. Alumni and their families enjoyed Rockland’s BBQ and classic hits performed by A Touch of Grey, led by Eliot Brenner ’67. For many, a tour through The Hazel Academic Building offered a nostalgic walk down familiar halls and classrooms.

Another beloved tradition returned, as Fred Atwood came out of retirement to lead the annual Nature Walk. More than 30 alumni and their families joined him, taking advantage of the chance to explore Flint Hill’s beautiful grounds and share stories from years past. Several alumni brought their children so that they could experience the magic of learning from Mr. Atwood.

The Class of 2016 marked their 10th reunion by opening their Senior Time Capsule — a tradition started by former Head of School John Thomas in 2005. It’s always a surprise to see what treasures 18-year-old alumni tucked away for their future selves. This year, the capsule revealed items like a tablet (with its charger included!), a track & field award, and other mementos. The class also shared words of wisdom with this year’s seniors, who are compiling their own time capsules.

Saturday night capped off with nearly 150 Reunion alumni, the Faculty Host Committee, and local alumni gathering at the annual Reunion Reception at Open Road. The energy was infectious as old friends reunited, memories were shared, and alumni caught up on life since graduation. Afterward, Reunion classes enjoyed Class Dinners on-site at both Open Road and TRIO Grill.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our dedicated Reunion Ralliers — Vince Salazar ’76, Blair Gormley ’91, Jamal Gallow ’91, Somil Mehta ’96, Shelly Chahel Cooper ’01, Jessie Doll ’01, Mandira Mehra ’01, Keven Schreiber ’01, Patrick Emery ’01, Lydia Russo ’06, Kavon Akhtar ’06, Bobby Chauhan ’06, Jeannette Tavares ’06, and Justin Biggs ’06 — and to our Faculty Host Committee: Elizabeth Anderson, Ken Andino, Fred Atwood, Annie Broche, Mia Burton, Jackie Carroll, Robin Goldstein, Desi Frost, Andrew Kane, Maha Morse, Ofelia Santos, Maia Schmidt, Doug Schoemer, Jeff Sealy, and Tim Uher.
